Senior IONM Physiologist / Clinical Physiologist

Job Summary

Advanced position in IONM for a professional who has had a Certification in Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM) for at least 5 years. This position shows proficiency and expertise in the technical aspects of IONM while performing complex procedures. The Senior IONM Technologist can perform advanced IONM and has proven competence in the performance of routine single and multi-modality protocols. In addition, supports the leadership team in training and education efforts to IOM Trainees and external clients, when needed. Strong well-developed communication skills are essential for this position.

Main duties of the job

REQUIRED SKILLS:


a. Advanced knowledge of IOM and EP’s acquisitions and troubleshooting, including, but not limited to; cortical motor/sensory and subcortical mapping, phase reversal, peripheral nerve, cranial nerve monitoring, D-Wave, and EEG;

b. Able to perform IOM for complex neurosurgery procedures, including, but not limited to; aneurysms, brain tumours, AVMs, MVD, etc.;

c. Advanced skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify resolutions within defined procedures and policies;

d. Proven leadership capabilities to train and educate trainee physiologists as the service expands and develops;

e. Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English effectively at a level appropriate for the safe and effective performance of the job.

f. Provide information on technical aspects of theatre monitoring based on current literature, policy and guidance.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


a. Performs procedures, recording, analysing and diagnosing various physiological monitoring functions, with the variety of devices, equipment and techniques.

b. Provides support to Lead with training and education efforts for Business Development.

c. Initiate and lead research projects in relation to Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring.

d. Represent MediServices within Neurophysiology Bodies such as BSCN, ANS, BSIN and NMUK ensuring the service keeps up to date with national standards but also acting as a MediServices representative on the national stage. Participation in national meetings, including presentations, research and audits will be expected;

e. Participate in quality assurance programmes alongside Clinical Governance team ensuring Neurophysiology Services meets high standards of governance and patient safety.
