What is n abdominal and pelvic ultrasound?

An abdominal and pelvic ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging test that uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of the organs and structures in your abdomen and pelvis.

This type of scan is commonly used to examine:

  • Liver
  • Kidneys
  • Gallbladder
  • Uterus and ovaries (in women)

Ultrasound does not use any radiation and is completely safe.

Children and Appointments

Please note: Children are not permitted in the scan room.

If you are unable to arrange childcare, please bring a responsible adult who can supervise them in the waiting area during your appointment.

Types of Abdominal and Pelvic Ultrasound

Transabdominal Ultrasound:

A small handheld device (transducer) is moved over your upper and lower abdomen to capture images externally.

Transvaginal Ultrasound (for women):

A small transducer is gently inserted into the vagina to get clearer views of the uterus and ovaries. You may choose not to have this type of scan, just let us know.
